Escape Images Blog24th September - New Escape Images blog launched 12th September - Looking over Stirling Today I went walkabout in the Ochil hills behind Stirling which offer stunning views over the forth valley and towards the highlands. The weather was pristine for a change, we seems to have been bombarded with rain for weeks now. The rain certainly has its plus points however, as you can see from these images just how lush and green everything looks. A nice end to the summer as things hint at making the change to Autumn. It's easy to get reflective as you sense the seasons changing but it seems like this year has flown past. I'm kicking myself for not getting out enough with my camera but work and countless other commitments always compete. Plans are under way however for an epic 2010 which will hopefully see me setting off around the world. Watch this space for further updates and travel plans. 10th August - Hover flies in technicolour These pictures of hoverflies feeding were taken in my garden. The colour of the plants is almost too vivid for the camera to capture fully but I'm sure you get the idea that they are VERY colourful! I made a brief visit to the home of golf this weekend to take in some glorious summer weather by the sea. St Andrews is always a favourite location of mine, reminding me of holidays spent there as a child. It looks just as good in the sun as it does in stormy weather, but I'm glad the blue skies stayed for this visit. Images have been added to the St Andrews photo collection here. There's nothing better than setting out on a warm summer evening with your camera to capture some of the natural world on film (or memory card). By the same token there's nothing worse than setting your eyes on a beautiful vista, sun drenched wheat field or stunning flowers and then struggling with where to point your camera. Very often there is so much going on in the natural world, in all its complexity, that we must do our best as surveyors and communicators to cut things down into simpler parts. Moving in close with your camera or focusing on a certain element of a scene focuses the viewers' attention on what you find most interesting about the moment. Its seems like its been a while since I've explored my local countryside in search of some fresh images. It never takes long to get back into the swing of things, looking at each plant, each tree trunk, each hedgerow for something interesting. Shape, patterns and colours are everywhere and it takes time and a keen eye to find the little details that make the shot work. I loved shooting the underside of the Common Hogweed where you are drawn into a world of completely different scale where small insects live in the shadows of the architecture of the plant.
