There are so many hidden gems in Scotland that it's easy to
pass them by. I have driven along the road from Denny to Fintry so many times, I was shocked and of course delighted when I first set eyes on the Fintry Falls. The valley is awash with colour at the moment which made up for how bloomin cold it was!

The Pots of Gartness is somewhere my father used to take me and my brothers as children. I have fond memories of the thundering water and the excitement at watching huge salmon leaping up the waterfalls. I decided that it was time I revisited the place to see what my camera made of it. The autumn colours were excellent and with heavy overnight rains the water was at full throttle.

I like looking back at shots like these which are full of quiet serenity, detatched from the thundering roar you actually experience while at the falls.

The salmon and sea trout were certainly on show. I decided to try something a little different with this shot, merging several images into one. The fish give it their all when trying to conquer the falls, but it may take many attempts before they actually make it. This is a shot I'd like to perfect in future.

The seasonal colours are continuing to blossom and I just have to get out there with the camera to try and capture some of the excitement. This Sunday out in the woods with my camera acted as an excellent hangover cure and although the autumn display is still a long way from challenging New England in terms of impact there is still an abundance of greens, golds and browns which liven up the landscape. All of these images were taken only a few miles from my doorstep, along the River Carron.

Plenty of rainfall means the river is high and fast, the movement emphasised by these time lapse shots which paint the water white.

As the day drew to a close I found this nicely framed scene through a window in the forrest canopy. A nice way to end the weekend.

The Autumn colours are slowly creeping out. There's still perhaps a week or two to go before they're at their best but I love the mix of greens, yellows and oranges at the moment.

Back in 'sunny' Scotland I found myself on the banks on Loch Tay. The seasons are definitely shifting but the Autumnal colours haven't quite surfaced just yet. Still, that wasn't stopping me braving the chilly air and heading out to explore. Watch this space for more 'seasonal shots'.

I've just arrived back from a long weekend in Cobh, Ireland where I made a second attempt at capturing the beauty of this colourful little coastal town. My previous visit was a bit of a wash out, with bland, white skies that just didn't do the place justice. I'm lucky enough to be only a short flight away so I thought I'd give the shots another go. You can imagine my sheer joy then with the stunning weather I encountered; blue skies and fluffy clouds injected buckets of colour into the place. You would never think it was October!

The weather also provided some nice early morning shots, with calm coastal water to reflect the rising sun. The Cathedral really is the towns focal point and is an impressive sight, rising high above the towns harbour.

I didn't quite expect to be shooting close-ups of owls and falcons today, but you never know what might happen when you head out with your camera do you!? I owe these shots to a display by Perthshire Sporting Plus who kindly let you get really close and personal with the birds. With this opportunity and no real point in trying to hide the fact that the birds were clearly captive I decided to go for some very intimate shots. More of these can be found on my alamy page.
