This weekend was not much of a photographic weekend but more a party weekend! I travelled to Aviemore with a group of friends from the UK and Ireland where we booked a very nice bungalow. Naturally with all the snow around we had to go sledging! Luckily we all survived relatively unscathed. The above image can be downloaded from the Free Images page.

A weekend away in Europe has been long overdue so it was excellent to get away for a photographic trip to Poznań, Poland's fifth largest city. Why Poznan? Well, why not Poznan is what I say! This growing city break destination has a lot on offer for those looking for history, culture, a vibrant nightlife and great value for money. Although November is'nt exactly the peak tourist season I was never short of things to do and of course photographs to take. The vodka's not bad either!

Poland is rich in religious history with almost 90% of Poles being Roman Catholic. The nation has had a long, turbulent history and its people are highly patriotic. My short stay in Poznań made a lasting impression and has also tempted me to explore the country's other sites of interest.

I managed to grab a few shots while up in the Cairngorms recently on a beautiful frosty (very cold) morning. The weather was perfect with almost no wind. A light dusting of snow on the mountain tops added that extra wintery atmosphere which looked great against a red morning sky.

A light dusting of frost ensured that everything was nice and crisp. The Cairngorms is home to some dramatic scenery and excellent landscapes full of heather, lichen and forestry. I only wish I could have spent more time here. A quick trip back is definitely on the cards.

2nd November 2008 - Reflections

Today was one of those perfectly still, crisp, sunny autumn days, ideal for a walk in the great outdoors. Never without the camera gear I was awestruck when I came across this mirror like loch in North Lanarkshire. With no wind whatsoever the waters surface was perfectly still. In order to make the most of the conditions I had to wait around in the cold for over an hour until the sun began to set, shedding orange light on the clouds and injecting some extra colour into the image.

Very often simplicity works best. There is nothing particularly special about this image above, but I love the serenity of this scene.
