The sunshine promised a great day for being outdoors today so I headed out with the camera gear to excercise my trigger finger. Despite the lovely blue skies, the temperature today was very low with a fierce wind that cut to the bone. It didn't seem to faze these Spring lambs
however who we happily running around in their wooly jumpers. I knew I was missing something...

I made a quick visit to my local Highland cattle once again to continue my black and white coo study. They never seem to dissapoint and one even sneezed on me which I'm almost certain is a toffee coo's seal of approval. Still I refrained from returning the gesture and left him to his oats.

Everything's coming together, the sunshine, fluffy clouds and green grass. Now all we need are some leaves on the trees! I'm sure they're not too far off now, although sometimes you just wish there was a big GO button you could push on the first day of spring to get things moving. I've been checking up on a local site for Common Lizards but they don't seem to be out and about just yet, I'll have to bide my time.

The last few days have been a blaze of sunshine with not a cloud in the sky! What better time to get out in the countryside for a cycle and some photography? I visited some moody looking Highland Cattle who look great in black and white. You've got to love their hairstyles and mud covered faces. Most of the cattle are rendered near enough blind due to the long hair which covers their eyes. Despite their fierce looks and large horns they are very docile, although somewhat smelly!

This fella decided to show off and touch his nose with his tongue. I'm sure if he tried he could have licked his horns with that thing.

The calm water of Carron Valley Reservoir made for some nice reflection photography, the sunlight dancing on the water's surface in this picture.

12th March 2009 - Winter's almost over...

It has certainly felt like another long Scottish winter and I'm definitely starting to look forward to warmer weather and long days of sunshine. As if that'll ever happen in Scotland! Not to fret, there are plenty more travles on the way soon. This week I took a quick drive north to Glencoe. The weather was stormy to say the least, with short bursts of blue sky and sunshine in between driving wind and rain. It was a struggle to keep the camera lens dry but the odd spatter sometimes adds to the drama. Rannoch Moor (above) certainly had plenty of drama on this day. I always think this road looks at its best with looming clouds and changeable weather. The mountains and surrounding landscape have a very ominous presence, especially the steep slopes of Buachaille Etive Mor (below).

A few days of glorious winter sunshine tempted me out with the camera recently to photograph the wildfowl at a local pond. Still a bit nipy for the shorts but I'm sure better weather is on its way! This young Mute Swan certainly didn't mind the cold as it approached, thinking I was taking bread out of my bag. You can almost sense it's dissapointment when confronted with a flashing camera instead of a tasty snack.

9th February 2009 - Birds in the snow

Nothing too spectacular about these shots, but it seems like ages since I've had the camera out pointing at natural subjects. Most of the winter has been spent on commercial photography for design oriented projects. Both of the above were taken in my back garden as the birds hopped about in a fresh dusting of snow.
